GOLDEN GRADUATE - I think it is fair to say that I fell in love with Long Beach State the very first day I came on campus as a student way back in September of 1961.  Not only did I find the campus impressive but my professors were of the highest quality from the get-go, and I cannot say that I ever had one who I thought was anything but excellent.

GOLDEN GRADUATE - Since I was one of those commuter students that came to campus around 8 am and left about 12 to 14 hours later- traveling all the way from Garden Grove before the freeway and back with my friends who offered me rides,  I had lots of "hangouts" on campus. My very favorite was the 49er Cafeteria.

GOLDEN GRADUATE - College and LBSC were life changing for me. My classes and experiences opened up a lot of possibilities for me, improved my discipline, and impacted the rest of my life.

GOLDEN GRADUATE - At the time, I don't think we were entirely aware that we were setting the stage for the future of the college; we were going to classes and living the everyday college life. But we were also building traditions, memories, and history. 

GOLDEN GRADUATE - I acquired an education, internship, and the campus activities prepared me City Management and to serve as an elected official.

GOLDEN GRADUATE - The leadership abilities that I obtained have been carried with me throughout my life. Having a college education allowed me to have a better life.

GOLDEN GRADUATE - The sociologist who impacted me was Dr. Nick Massaro. His lectures were absolutely fascinating, to me anyway. When we were about to graduate, he leaned over his lectern one day, looked every one in the eye, and said, “So, you think you are so smart now that you are about to graduate? GOLDEN GRADUATES - He began his career of public service in 1957 with the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, while attending California State University, Long Beach.  After graduating in 1960, he began working with the City of Long Beach as a Budget Analyst and later a Legislative Analyst.
