Bridges to the Doctorate
Program Reinstated Until July 31, 2026
The NIH Bridges to the Doctorate program at 91ÌÒÉ« has been reinstated as of July 2025, but will end on July 31, 2026.
The NIH has discontinued this program as it did not align with its priorities. The fifth current cohort will receive one year of support and no new cohorts will be supported. We hope the NIH introduces a new program that supports our talented M.S. students who want to earn Ph.Ds.
The Bridges to the Doctorate (BTD) Training Program partners with University of California, Irvine to produce a seamless and supportive bridge to the Ph.D. for California State University, Long Beach graduate students interested in biomedical research careers.
The program activities are designed to strengthen students' academic preparation, research training, and professional skills. M.S. students will complete a two-year Master's degree program at 91ÌÒÉ« that culminates in the defense of a Master's research thesis.
The Bridges the Doctorate Program is supported by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number T32GM138075.
